Would you like to build an extension and expand your home?

With rapidly spiralling house prices forcing more people to stick with their current property for the time being, a number of home-owners are choosing to extend their existing property in order to gain extra space without having to sell up. Although the cost of building an extension can be significant, it is a sure-fire way to add value to your home and will serve those looking to move away in a few years time just as well as those who are setting up for the long haul.

Here is some practical advice to get you started…

First of all you need to find out if you need planning permission

New permitted development rules were introduced in 2008 to make the whole process of extending your house a whole lot easier. You’ll be surprised how much extra space you can get without going down the full planning route. Permitted planning is so much easier and quicker than it used to be.

If you are unsure what to do, ask us. We can help with the whole process from start to finish.

Do you need an Architect?

This often depends on how complicated your building project is? If your building works can be done under permitted development we would recommend having your drawings done by an architectural technician this will keep your costs to a minimum. Don’t forget Architects can be very expensive!

Don’t forget you will need Building regulations sign off as well as your planning permission.
